NAMM Media Outreach Program Could Drive More Traffic to Your Store as Part of National Wanna Play? Campaign

The number one excuse given by people who don’t play a musical instrument is “I don’t have enough time.” Well, they are in luck.  It just so happens that consumers across the U.S. will have an extra hour of time on Sunday, November 1, 2009 when we roll our clocks back for the ending of Daylight Savings Time. And what should they do with that extra time?  Well NAMM will soon suggest to them through a national media outreach effort that they take the first step towards fulfilling that lifelong dream of playing a musical instrument. We’re calling it “Time to Play” and want as many of you NAMM Members out there to know about it and jump on this opportunity to drive traffic to your store.

What NAMM plans to do:
NAMM will send out a fun fact sheet to media across the country outlining:

  • What can be accomplished in an hour of music lessons
  • How many hours it would take to learn how to play your favorite song or holiday song from now until the holiday season
  • How to determine in less than an hour what musical instrument is best for you
  • How many famous songs were composed in under an hour

The answers to these questions will be posted on www.wannaplaymusic.com, the Web site of NAMM’s Wanna Play? public awareness campaign. Site visitors also have access to the Dealer and Lesson Locator search tools, which helps them find the nearest NAMM Member retailer or lesson provider in their area.

How do I get involved?
Most importantly, the press materials we're sending out will mention that some NAMM Member stores will be staying open an hour later on Nov. 1 to offer customers a chance to explore instruments they might be interested in playing. We hope you will consider doing this and promoting the fact that you are in every way imaginable.

To get you started, NAMM has created a template press release that you can customize and send out to media in your area to promote your participation in NAMM’s new “Time to Play” promotion.  So if you’re in, be sure to blog, tweet and post about it, make flyers, phone calls, tell everyone you know and make sure they tell everyone they know so you can make the most of this opportunity.

And when it's all over, we’d love to hear if this idea worked for you so please shoot us an e-mail to info@namm.org and share your thoughts.

Help your customers enjoy their “Time to Play” on November 1!
