NAMM's D.C. Fly-In Now Underway
At this year's annual Advocacy Fly-In, nearly 30 NAMM Members, the NAMM Executive Committee, the association's Board of Directors and other industry representatives were joined by singer/songwriter Vanessa Carlton, Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Latin GRAMMY-nominated artist and former NY Yankee Bernie Williams as they worked to press the importance of music education support and funding to Members of U.S. Congress.
On Tuesday, the group attended a variety of advocacy briefings, including "Beyond the Cause: the Art and Science of Advocacy," a keynote address by Paul Marchione, the director of Community Outreach and Advocacy Engagement at Independent Sector. The contingent lobbied members of Congress on Wednesday about the importance of comprehensive music education in our nation’s schools and attended a special presentation by the NAMM Foundation, the VH1 Save the Music Foundation and NafME honoring Senator Rockefeller, Senator Manchin and Randall Reid-Smith with SupportMusic Awards for their support of music education and their leadership during the statewide rebuild of West Virginia music education programs.
