2009 NAMM Show Opens in Anaheim

Musical Instrument Dealers Hopeful As They Head to Anaheim to Gear Up for the Year Ahead

Carlsbad, CA

The NAMM Show, the longest-running trade show in the United States, opened today welcoming thousands of musical instrument and products retailers and manufacturers from around the world. Despite a turbulent global economy, the mood of the industry remains optimistic as more consumers of all ages turn to less expensive, more family-oriented pastimes like music making during these challenging economic times.

NAMM Members have described The NAMM Show as the most important business event of the year. The 2009 NAMM Show will draw more than 1,500 companies that will exhibit their latest innovations to retailers who will then bring these exciting new products back to their local communities, allowing millions of music makers of all ages to experience the fun and proven benefits of playing music.

The trade show, held at the Anaheim Convention Center Jan. 15–18, is only open to industry members and their invited guests, and draws the convention center’s highest annual attendance.  Last year, NAMM reported 88,128 registrants, which set a new show record. The estimated economic impact for Anaheim this year is expected to exceed $70 million during the four-day event. 

“This NAMM Show is truly a family reunion for the global music products industry,” said NAMM President and CEO Joe Lamond. “The unprecedented current economic headwinds make the 2009 show perhaps the most important in recent memory. Our Members are coming together to get a sense for where the industry is heading, to keep up on the latest products and to enjoy the camaraderie and friendships that are so unique to our industry.  They will then return to their businesses revitalized for the year ahead.”

Themed “Come Together,” the event offers industry members educational sessions, networking opportunities and a chance to display and view thousands of new products, ranging from string, percussion and band instruments to pianos, music accessories, pro audio and computer music equipment.

A full menu of musical performances and activities is available to attendees throughout the show, and a variety of after-hours parties and concerts are planned around the convention area throughout the weekend.
