Now more than ever, it's important to let your representatives in Washington know that every child in America deserves a complete, well-rounded education that includes music and the arts. NAMM's Virtual Advocacy Days Forum webcast on May 11 enables you to participate in the briefing activities covering the U.S. reauthorization of the national education act during NAMM's Washington Fly-In as they happen.

The day-long event will feature prominent political leaders and experts covering an array of legislative topics and advocacy activities in support of music education, as well as economic forecasts and impact on small business. You can “tune in” for the entire webcast or just the topics that interest you most. To ask a question of the speakers during the live web event, please e-mail VADquestions@namm.org.

A visit to the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus by US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, followed by brief remarks by Secretary Duncan on the importance of music education; informal meeting and photo with NAMM Members (video footage of event will be available)

Overview of the Economy and Recourses for Small Business
Brian Sigritz, Director of State Fiscal Studies, National Association of State Budget Officers

Brian Sigritz is the Director of State Fiscal Studies for the National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO) in Washington, D.C.  Within NASBO, his responsibilities include tracking and analyzing economic, tax and revenue trends, as well as handling NASBO activities related to performance measures and management, privatization, and disaster response issues.  He also monitors the fiscal health of the states and edits and produces the State Expenditure Report annually.

Prior to coming to NASBO, Sigritz worked as a legislative aide in the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives, where he served as the caucus staff representative on the Human Services and Aging Committee.  He has also served as the legislative liaison to the Mayor of Dayton, Ohio, and has worked as a research assistant for the Center for Washington Area Studies.  Additionally, Sigritz has authored articles for several publications, including State Tax Notes and the Council of State Governments’ (CSG) Book of the States.

Sigritz graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from St. Bonaventure University in 2000, and received his Master of Public Administration degree from George Washington University in 2006.  He also studied sociology and history while attending Oxford University.

Founded in 1945, NASBO serves as the professional organization for all state budget officers of the fifty states and U.S. territories.  NASBO collects fiscal data and publishes numerous reports on state fiscal conditions.  The association also provides training for members and provides public officials, the media and citizens information on financial management and budgeting.
