Just the Facts: Wanna Play Music Sunday at Summer NAMM
This year, NAMM has announced a new effort on Sunday, June 20--the last day of Summer NAMM--called "Wanna Play Music Sunday." And like any new program, there are bound to be some questions out there. So we wanted to offer a brief Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to help out. Please feel free to share this FAQ with your staff and industry contacts.
Q: Why is NAMM doing this?
A: Because many of our Members asked us to do something to make Sunday a better show day.
Q: I'm a retailer. Should I stay for Wanna Play Music Sunday?
A: Yes! There are many great business reasons to stay at Summer NAMM until Sunday, including the popular "Best in Show" NAMM University Breakfast Session, great Idea Center sessions throughout the morning and the FREE Wanna Play Celebrity Jam concert by Gov. Mike Huckabee and a host of country music stars on Sunday afternoon.
Q: Will the Sunday show floor look much different from previous years? If I'm exhibiting, should I bring more staff for Sunday?
A: Due to the liberal distribution of Summer NAMM visitor badges by NAMM Member companies, we might not notice any change at all. Many of the same people we've seen for years will continue to attend the show. We'll be prepared for a small or large crowd, but want to set very realistic expectations for Wanna Play Music Sunday.
Q: Can anyone attend Wanna Play Music Sunday at Summer NAMM?
A: Yes. We're opening the show doors on Sunday, June 20, to anyone with a ticket.
Q: Are the show hours different on Wanna Play Music Sunday for the public attendees?
A: No. The show will open at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m.
Q: Can these attendees buy products from manufacturers on the show floor?
A: No. Only retail buyers are allowed to purchase products at Summer NAMM.
Q: Can Wanna Play Music Sunday attendees bring in their own musical instruments?
A: No personal instruments will be allowed on the show floor. However, attendees are encouraged to bring their vintage instruments to the Vintage Guitar Road Show, where they can find out the worth of these items. This will be held along with other Wanna Play Music Sunday sessions on Level 3. And there will be a bag and instrument check available nearby for attendees wanting to walk the show floor.
Q: What should I tell people who would like to purchase tickets to Wanna Play Music Sunday?
A: Tickets for Sunday-only show access are $20 and can be purchased online or at the Nashville Convention Center on June 20. They can receive a 50 percent off promo code coupon by visiting any participating NAMM Member music store. Member stores can download the coupon from NAMM's website.
Q: If I'm exhibiting, should I put my wholesale price lists away on Wanna Play Music Sunday?
A: Please be prepared for a crowd of mixed trade and public attendance and conduct your business accordingly.
Q: Will NAMM repeat this program at The NAMM Show in Anaheim?
A: NAMM has made no announcement indicating any future plans for Wanna Play Music Sunday beyond Summer NAMM 2010.
