Agreement Reached for Marketplace Fairness
Senator Dick Durbin and Senator Mitch McConnell have reached an agreement that would allow the Senate to consider the Marketplace Fairness Act (S. 698) later this year. In the past, MFA has garnered bipartisan support with the Senate approving a similar proposal in 2013. Despite the Senate vote, the measure has yet to become law. Should the Senate and House both approve the proposal, MFA would enable state governments to collect sale taxes and use taxes from remote retailers with no physical presence in their state. Stay tuned as NAMM continues to monitor this issue.
