House Committee Receives Testimony on E-Fairness Taxation Loophole

The issue of whether current tax laws favor online retailers over small businesses continues to be debated on Capitol Hill. On June 2, Dan Crippen, Executive Director of the National Association of Governors, testified that “[t]he need to create parity between in-state and out-of-state retailers regarding the collection of state and local sales taxes” remains “the tax issue of greatest importance of states.” An update on the status of e-fairness legislation is provided by the Marketplace Fairness Coalition here. NAMM will continue to monitor this issue and provide updates as relevant information emerges.
