Dr. Mackie Spradley

Dr. Mackie V. Spradley is the Director of Enrichment Education for the Texas Education Agency who provides statewide leadership over all enrichment subjects. Concurrently, Mackie teaches graduate-level courses in the Educational Leadership Online Master’s Program as an adjunct professor in the Department of Teacher Education and Administration, College of Education, University of North Texas.

Mackie’s career encompasses diverse teaching contexts and various levels. Before becoming the Coordinator of Secondary Choral & General Music Studies in the Dallas Independent School District for 10 years, Mackie taught music in Ft. Worth ISD and Dallas ISD for 16 years. Mackie’s teaching experiences include Texas Woman’s University, Ft. Worth Civic Chorus, private studio voice, and extended assignments in Jamaica and Japan.

Mackie consistently demonstrates her ability to lead and willingness to serve having served as Multicultural Chair, board member of the National Association for Multicultural Educators, associated faculty with the Texas Christian University Center for Public Education, state-level think-tanks, and as a curriculum writer of the Music Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Currently, Mackie serves as Immediate Past President of the Texas NAfME chapter and facilitator for the Teacher Retention Area for Strategic Planning and Action with the Society of Music Teacher Education (SMTE).

Mackie has shared her expertise at various music conferences including Arizona MEA, Colorado MEA, Texas MEA, Texas Choral Directors Association, SMTE, Biennial Music Educators National Conference, and the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc. Her published work includes articles in the National Forum of Multicultural Issues Journal, Texas Music Educators Conference Connections, and a book chapter in Educational Leadership and Music.

Mackie received the Bachelor of Music in Voice from the University of North Texas and a Master of Arts in Vocal Pedagogy from Texas Woman’s University. She received her Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of North Texas in the College of Education with a major in Curriculum and Instruction and a minor in Anthropology. Mackie continues to focus her work and efforts on issues related to equity in music education.
