SupportMusic Coalition Call Shows Importance of Community Effort
Moderated by NAMM Foundation Executive Director Mary Luehrsen, the SupportMusic Coalition's July webinar—“Live From 2013 Summer NAMM"—highlighted Nashville's Music Makes Us music education reinstatement effort. Music Makes Us, a joint venture between Nashville Metro Public Schools and music industry leaders, has developed a music curriculum that incorporates traditional and non-traditional approaches to public school music education.
Featured panelists were Laurie Schell, Director, Music Makes Us; Dr. Jesse Register, Director of Schools, Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools; Dr. Nola Jones, Coordinator of Music, Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools; Dr. Nancy Shapiro, Senior Vice President of Member Services, The Recording Academy®; and Matt Seaton, Outreach Manager, Country Music Association.
The panelists offered a general overview of the program, as well as the successes and challenges they’ve faced in this first year. Music industry representatives shared examples of the Nashville music community’s support of the ongoing effort.
