Joseph In the Well
Joseph in the Well is a Sacramento band led by violinist-looper Joe Kye, an immigrant American singer-songwriter. Born in Seoul, raised in Seattle, Joe draws upon an eclectic array of influences, like folk (Korean and otherwise), jazz, classical, and rock.
Having trained classically from childhood, Joe began to explore different musical genres as a teenager, exploring jazz, blues, and rock at Garfield High School. He began to write his own songs at the age of 16. At Yale University, Joe continued to work with singing, directing the Society of Orpheus and Bacchus, the second longest-running undergraduate a cappella group in the United States. While residing in New Haven, Joe played in multiple bands, composed several works for dance, and performed his original music regularly.
After a few years teaching high school English in San Francisco and Seattle, during which time he released his first EP, Plastic Heart, Joe decided to focus on music in 2013. Joe plays violin, guitar, mandolin, and sings. His work has been compared to Andrew Bird, Sondre Lerche, Nick Drake, and Grizzly Bear. He now resides in Sacramento, CA.
