Your Guide to NAMM Member Benefits
NAMM membership is more than just access to NAMM’s two trade shows in Anaheim and Nashville. There are year-round member benefits you can take advantage of to help your business grow and be successful. NAMM is devoted to your success every day! Here’s how.
Access to World-Class Education
Members often say that the free education offered by NAMM U is one of the biggest perks of membership. Short NAMM Idea Center sessions tailored to music retailers and TEC Tracks sessions for pro audio, sound and recording professionals offer timely information from the industry’s leading experts on their business-building strategies. Stay up-to-date with everything from new technology to retail sales, lesson programs, finance, marketing and more.
Didn’t make it to The NAMM Show? NAMM U Online makes it easy for members to access education sessions at their leisure with a vast video library organized by subject so you can find what you need fast.
Oral History Library
While you're learning about future tips and strategies to grow your business, it's also meaningful to take a step back to reflect on and learn from the past. NAMM's Oral History Program now boasts nearly 4,000 interviews with professionals who have shaped the music products industry. Throughout the collection, stories document the rich history and deep passion for the music products, live sound, and event technology industries, making it the largest collection of its kind.
NAMM members have access to these interviews, as well as the Resource Center monthly e-newsletter, and the newest addition, The Music History Project podcast which examines the innovative creations, evolution of musical instruments, the changing world of music retail and music industry icons.
Money-Saving Business Services
The everyday costs of doing business can add up, but NAMM can help you save money and time with endorsed service providers. NAMM’s group buying power makes it possible to negotiate great rates to provide the most competitive business products and rates possible on many of the services you use every day.
“My NAMM membership fee disappears when I add up all the discounts I get with FedEx shipping, all because of my NAMM membership,” shared Dixie Huthmaker of Huthmaker Violins in Suwanee, Georgia. “When a customer asks who pays for shipping a violin, we are delighted to say we will because we can afford to treat our customers well.”
Powering Music Advocacy
One of the most fulfilling aspects of NAMM membership is that your dues and participation help to fuel NAMM’s Circle of Benefits business model. Trade Show and membership income go towards fundraising, industry charity programs and education. The NAMM Foundation works to advance active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs within the international music products industry.
Public Affairs and Government Relations Efforts
As a NAMM member, you also have the opportunity to join the annual Music Education Advocacy D.C. Fly-In, joining your peers from across the country in D.C. to lobby for music education. Members have the chance to sit down with congressmen and women in Washington and have their voice heard.
“I did my first D.C. fly-in last year and I wish I had done it when they first started. It was incredible,” said Cindy Cook of Candyman Strings & Things in Santa Fe, New Mexico. “Had I known the impact NAMM had with legislators by empowering their members, and giving them tools to advocate for music education in schools, I would have been doing this a long time ago.”
The best way for members to start getting involved in music advocacy is to join the SupportMusic Coalition on Coalitions, a network of advocates that provides tactics, resources and best practices to move and improve state-level policies for music and arts education.
Last but not least, NAMM members have access to a variety of publications and resources to help them connect and grow. These include:
- The NAMM Global Report offering industry data from more than 120 countries and regions including sales figures, unit sales information, analysis and import/export numbers for musical instrument and products.
- PLAYback Blog is the heart of NAMM, highlighting inspiring member stories.
- A variety of monthly newsletters to keep you up to date including NAMM News, Daily News, Exhibitor Express, TEC News, NAMM U News and more!
