Job Title
Luthier, Musician

Salani, whose African name is Wamkanganise Nagaadza,  feels very strongly about the role musical instruments play in honoring our ancestors. The Mbira, which he builds and plays speaks to the traditions of Africa and his own family’s roots. The Mbira is also known as the finger harp and is traced back to the Shona people of Zimbabwe. The instrument can be made in several styles and tribal traditions. Salani relates most to the Mbira originating from Mozambique in southeastern Africa. The instruments he builds reflect that heritage such as the Nyunga Nyunga, a 16 key instrument, and the Nhara which  has 24 keys. While he performs you can deepen your appreciation for Salani’s sentiment that the spirit of music is inherently based on positivity!
