This interactive and engaging session will teach participants to use the ukulele as an instrument that allows students to develop music literacy within their schools’ programs. Participants will play a number of songs and experience strategies and techniques that allow the ukulele to be used as a tool to teach students to sightread, play by ear, sing in tune, and develop an understanding of rhythm, beat, and harmony. We will also investigate ways to maximize the use of the ukulele in combination with other classroom music approaches and/or as a component of a year-long plan. A limited number of ukuleles will be provided. Presented by The NAMM Foundation in collaboration with KALA Brand Music and the Langley Ukulele Association.
