Teaching with Authenticity: Examining Music's Historic and Contemporary Cultural Traditions

As educators, you may find yourself teaching music that is not of your culture. We will focus on culturally responsive teaching, honoring traditions and legacy. We will have activities and discussions highlighting how to approach different cultures through using the music and film from the GRAMMY-Winning Take Me To The River New Orleans. By examining cultural context our desire is to give you tools and reframe your skills to reach your students through representation so you can address inequities while having competency in content with a multicultural awareness lens.
