Jack Douglas was among the earliest and most influential recording engineers at the legendary Record Plant, where he worked closely with founders Chris Stone and Gary Kellgren to help create a modern recording environment designed to make artists feel comfortable, creative, and free to deliver their best performances. Known for his warm production style, strong attention to sonic detail, and ability to capture energetic live performances in the studio, Jack became one of the most respected producers and engineers of the rock era. Over his remarkable career he engineered and produced recordings for artists including The Who, Aerosmith, New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, and Blue Öyster Cult. In 1980 Jack worked closely with John Lennon and Yoko Ono on the album Double Fantasy, which earned the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. During the same sessions he also worked on what later became Milk and Honey, recordings that were tragically interrupted by Lennon’s murder in December 1980. Jack was interviewed for the NAMM Oral History program on the day he was inducted into the TEC Hall of Fame.
