The ability of educators to effectively teach diverse student populations and successfully foster a culture of diversity is crucial. This session aims to diversify concert programming and rediscover refreshing repertoire for successful intercultural teaching. Repertoire includes Hope Lee’s Flower Drum Dance (2001), Chen Yi’s Bamboo Dance (2013), and Emily Koh’s Reperio (2022). Topics of Chinese folk tunes and traditional dances, an understanding of Chinese musical elements, numbered notations, and learning resources will be examined. The aspect of social justice through Koh’s Reperio will also be discussed. This session will expand knowledge of different cultures and enhance awareness of intercultural issues.
