Using the Website

Overview

The B2B section of the NAMM.org website will serve as a replacement for B2B.namm.org.  This should result in the ability to reach and interface with a wider set of NAMM members. At this moment only members of the committee (and for the time being guest members) will be enabled to change and add content to this section of the site.  Of course, NAMM staff will also be able to do so.  It is important to understand the mechanisms used to limit access as well as track subscriptions.  The conventions and settings described here will remain as a reference so we can control access and notifications consistently.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions have been set up for each committee member.  As of this writing, they are set for daily digest mode.  The intent is that each of us receives a single daily email whenever there have been updates or modification to this section of the site.  At some point in the near future, I will enable self-maintenance of these settings.

The subscription settings are set to track content that has been tagged with any one of the following terms: ;'XML', 'B2B', 'Business-to-Business', 'Ad-hoc'.   These terms are used in the 'Tags' field.
Addtionally, the subscription tracks anything that is set to the 'Adhoc' Group.   Group settings are different than tags. Groups settings are used to limit access to a particular set of users.  The 'Adhoc' Group consists of the committee & guest members. Pages that have the 'Adhoc' Group setting can only be seen by those people and NAMM staff.

Editing Content

If you are logged in as a committee member, you may change existing content.  This is done by selecting the 'edit' tab.  Most of the editing process should be obvious, but there are some subtleties, for example, you would almost always edit text with the 'Open rich editor'.  At some point in the future, I will provide more detailed recommendations for this process.

Currently, there are only two different 'content types' that are used in the B2B sections, 'Book Pages', and 'Source Code Pages'.  They are presented differently and are used for different purposes.

Book Pages

A 'Book Page' is an ordinary html page that is intended to live in the hierarchy of this section.  When you 'Add Child Page' you create a new Book Page that is linked as a child under the page you are one.  The pages can be moved around by changing their parents ( a pull down field) and reorder by changing their weight ( another pull down field).  This page is a Book Page.  In order to make a Book Page trackable to our subscription settings, please add one or more of the following tags in the 'Tags' field: 'XML, B2B'.  If you would like to make the page private to the Ad-hoc committee, set the Group to 'Adhoc'.

Source Code Pages

A 'Source Code' page is meant to be a container for both html content as well as syntax highlighted XML.  You may paste raw XML into the Code field and the site will display it in a reasonable format for viewing.  Creating a Source Page is a little trickier since it is not indigineous to a Book.  You can create a source page by going to this URL: https://ww1.namm.org/node/add. After the page is created, use the 'outline' tab to insert it into the section that you want it to appear in.  Since the process is not intuitive, feel free to contact me and I will walk you through the process.  In order to make a Source Code Page trackable to our subscription settings, please add one or more of the following tags in the 'Tags' field: 'XML, B2B'.  If you would like to make the page private to the Ad-hoc committee, set the Group to 'Adhoc'.

Comments

In addition to editing content, comments can be added to any page.  The comments are tracked as part of the subscriptions and you should be notified if there are new comments to read.  It will be useful to use the comments to bring up issues and thoughts relating to the page the comment is on.
