NAMM Announces Music Advocacy Summit - A Call to Action

- Virtual day of advocacy to focus on funding realities, advocacy response to keep music education alive -

Capitol Bldg
Carlsbad, CA

NAMM members, arts and music education advocates are encouraged to join together on Tuesday, June 16, for the organization’s Music Advocacy Summit. The half-day summit will bring together arts and music education experts and policymakers for an advocacy briefing and training to prepare delegates to contact Members of Congress, as well as state and local officials, about the essential role of music education for every child. It’s a message that is perhaps more important than ever before.

“In this time of crisis, we have seen in real-time the power of music to connect students and families with their schools and communities,” affirmed Mary Luehrsen, director of public affairs at NAMM. “While we may not be able to gather in D.C. for our annual advocacy Fly-In this year, thousands of school-aged children depend on us to be their voice. Our important work remains: to ensure that every child has access to a well-rounded education that includes music.”

The NAMM Music Advocacy Summit will cover current policy updates, expected funding realities, and a state-by-state snapshot of advocacy action needs and training. Musical “breaks” will be provided by NAMM Fly-In delegates: award-winning hip hop producer, J. Dash, and NAMM Foundation board member, Latin Grammy® award-winner, and former New York Yankee, Bernie Williams. A sample schedule is below.

Delegates interested in attending may register by visiting https://ww1.namm.org/2020-music-advocacy-summit. All sessions will be in Pacific Time. Additional details will be announced in the coming weeks.
