NAMM Celebrates Make Music Day on June 21

By Jessica A. Baris | June 21, 2024

Wouldn’t it be fun if people around the world were to take a whole day to celebrate the joy of making music?

Well, pick up a musical instrument, because it’s a real thing — and it’s happening today!

Make Music Day, held every year on June 21, is the world’s largest annual event for celebrating music making, with events happening in 2,000+ cities across the globe. Today, musicians of all kinds gather to connect through the power of music — whether it’s an ukulele jam at a middle school, a drum circle in a parking lot, a string ensemble by the bay, kids on kazoos or guitarists playing tunes on the sidewalk to make strangers smile. Make Music Day is an event that encourages everyone of any skill level to play an instrument and join in the celebration.

The NAMM Foundation brings Make Music Day to the public through a fun-filled schedule of music events at the Museum of Making Music, located at NAMM’s headquarters in Carlsbad, California. Look at how the celebration is taking off!

A banjo, two fiddles, mandolin and guitar make up the San Diego Old Time Music Band:

Jeff and Richie show the audience how cool the harmonica and guitar pair:

"The whole world is celebrating today," says Richie. "How could we not do our part in promoting this great day to inspire young people and children to take up music!"

"I grew up around a campfire listening to musicians play songs about our history, our country, and just about love and peace for everyone, and I got hooked," says Jeff, who still loves playing guitar to this day.

Thank you to all the musicians who participated in NAMM's celebration of Make Music Day!
