David Murray is a lifelong music maker who started on the clarinet before switching to baritone horn in high school. He picked up the trombone in college, which became his mainstay for years. In addition to directing the West Marin Community Chorus and Orchestra in Bolinas, California, After moving to southern California in 1989, Dave continued his education at SDSU to earn a BA in music composition (1992) and an MM in Jazz Studies (composition, trombone, 1993) while concurrently playing with the group Chicago Six. He conducted the Big Band and Jazz Hall Of Fame Orchestra from 1993-1995, the San Diego Bay Bones (trombone choir) from 1999-2003, and was the director of the Mammoth Lakes Jazz Jubilee Jazz Camp in Mammoth Lakes, CA in 1995. From 1999-2012 he taught in public schools, from community colleges to middle schools, before retiring in 2012. He is currently an active player and arranger/composer in the San Diego area.
