Eddie Perez
Oral History Information
Eddie Perez’s musical journey was initially fueled by the rock ‘n’ roll energy of Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen, influences he eventually funneled into the world of Americana and country-rock. A self-taught musician, Eddie developed his craft performing throughout the Los Angeles club scene in the 1990s before earning a spot as lead guitarist for The Mavericks in 2003. Following the band’s hiatus in 2005, he spent seven years as lead guitarist for Dwight Yoakam, further honing his technical expertise and mastering the nuances of the Bakersfield sound through extensive touring and studio work. When The Mavericks reunited in 2012, Eddie returned to the group and has remained a key contributor to its ongoing success, while also collaborating on solo projects with frontman Raul Malo. A minimalist regarding gear, Eddie is known for his preference for vintage-spec instruments—particularly ’62 reissue Jaguars and ’57 Duo Jets—advocating for a direct, pure signal chain between the player and the audience.
