Billy Sheehan is widely regarded as one of the most influential and technically innovative bass players in rock music. Born in Buffalo, New York, he began playing bass as a teenager and quickly developed a distinctive style that blended melodic phrasing, powerful tone and advanced techniques such as tapping and harmonics. Billy first gained national recognition with the band Talas before joining David Lee Roth’s solo band in the mid-1980s, performing on the acclaimed album Eat ’Em and Smile and touring worldwide. He later co-founded the supergroup Mr. Big, whose hit song “To Be With You” reached audiences around the globe, and has also performed with groups such as Niacin and The Winery Dogs. Throughout his career, Billy has maintained a strong connection to the music products industry through artist endorsements, educational clinics and regular appearances at The NAMM Show, where he has inspired generations of musicians while sharing his passion for bass, tone and musical innovation.
