Brad Rabuchin
Oral History Information
Brad Rabuchin’s musical journey began in Pasadena, California, after seeing Mason Williams perform “Classical Gas” on television using a guitar filled with swimming fish, an image that sparked Brad’s lifelong passion for the instrument. Initially drawn to acoustic fingerstyle guitar, he later expanded into electric guitar while developing his musical voice through self-study and guidance from respected teachers including Ted Greene, Joe Pass, and Derol Coraco. Over the years, Brad established himself as a highly respected guitarist, composer, educator, and sideman whose versatility allowed him to perform with artists ranging from Ray Charles, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Wonder, and Willie Nelson to Louie Bellson, Roy Hargrove, Pat Martino, and Tom Jones. Brad spent five years touring six continents as Ray Charles’ final guitarist while also cultivating his own creative projects, including the solo albums When Smart Dogs Go Bad and Cats Have Edge. In addition to performing, Brad has shared his knowledge through decades of teaching at leading music institutions and workshops.
