Caroline Bienstock

Caroline Bienstock was a respected music publisher, attorney and business leader who carried forward one of the music industry’s most distinguished family legacies. A native of New York City, she was the daughter of legendary music publisher Freddy Bienstock and Miriam Bienstock, one of the original founders of Atlantic Records. Her father established Carlin America, naming the company in honor of Caroline, and built a catalog that played an important role in popular and rock music beginning in the 1950s. Freddy was also closely associated with Elvis Presley, presenting song demos for consideration for Elvis’ recordings and films. Caroline graduated cum laude from Yale College, earned her law degree from Boston University and later received an MBA from the Wharton School. After practicing law and working at Goldman Sachs, she joined the family business, eventually serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of Carlin America alongside her brother, Robert. Throughout her career, Caroline was an ardent advocate for songwriters and a thoughtful steward of the company’s extensive catalog. Her contributions were recognized in 2017 with the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Abe Olman Publisher Award. She also served several leading music industry organizations, including ASCAP and the National Music Publishers Association. Caroline’s intelligence, strength and dedication to preserving songs and protecting songwriters left an enduring legacy throughout the music community.
