Oral History Information
Tony Escapa was inspired to play music from his father, fittingly who he was named after. Younger Tony began beating on furniture at an early age and was given drums when he was nine years old. His father worked at Ace Music in Florida, and young Tony would practice on the drums after hours. He was encouraged and mentored by the director of the drum department at Ace, Mr. Joe Skinner. It was Joe who insisted that Tony senior record a video of him playing, which started the ball rolling with his professional career and his endorsement with DW Drums, LP (Latin Percussion) and Yamaha. He also has had a steady gig with Ricky Martin for over 20 years!
