Zamp Nicall
Oral History Information
Zamp Nicall developed a passion for music at an early age, first learning guitar as a child before becoming active in Southern California’s vibrant music scene during high school. He formed the rock trio The Hubcaps, serving as the band’s bass player while exploring the energetic sound of classic power trios. His musical interests later expanded into jazz through another group, Jazz On The Rocks, where he and his fellow musicians creatively reimagined rock and roll songs with jazz arrangements while performing throughout the Los Angeles area. Zamp eventually established a Hollywood recording studio called The Kitchen Sink, where he collaborated with television producers, songwriters, and music creators on a wide range of recording projects. Through connections in the television industry, including work alongside his brother on the popular series Baywatch, Zamp became a respected music editor known for his versatility, technical skills, and willingness to tackle demanding last-minute projects. His television credits grew to include programs such as The Shield, Nip/Tuck, The Closer, and Robodoc, experiences that deepened his appreciation for collaborative music production. In recent years, Zamp has continued creating music through online media projects while also exploring the emerging possibilities of AI-generated music. A longtime attendee of the NAMM Show, Zamp reflected on decades in music and media during his NAMM Oral History interview.
