The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) announced today that it is inviting college students with music business or music education majors to attend the “Generation Next” program at the 2012 NAMM Show. This unique program offers professional development sessions and networking opportunities to help students launch careers in the music products industry.

The 2012 NAMM Show will take place Jan. 19 to 22 at the Anaheim Convention Center, and is one of the oldest and largest music products trade shows in the world with more than 88,000 trade professionals attending each year. This is a rare opportunity for music education and music industry college students to attend the NAMM Show, as it is a “trade-only” event.
The NAMM Show exhibitors are the backdrop to a rich learning experience about the music products business and global trade. The NAMM Show features more than 1,500 manufacturers from around the world exhibiting unique music materials and products, including pro-audio equipment and new music-making applications and technologies.

Highlights of the program will include:

  • Sessions for first-time or returning students of Generation Next. Breakout sessions will focus on networking, navigating the NAMM Show floor and making industry connections
  • Motivational sessions led by Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser of Attitude Concepts, Inc. to help students launch their first career job search
  • Sit-downs with industry professionals representing various segments of the industry including start-up companies, nonprofit organizations, manufacturers, product reps and artist relations
  • Sessions that provide students with tools to start a career, featuring a panel of human resources professionals from NAMM Member companies with an overview of interview techniques and etiquette along with a speed interviewing clinic
  • Access to Music Education Days sessions including a clinic by John Jacobson, also known as “Mr. Double Dream Hands,” the Canadian Brass “Quintet,” and the National Show Choir Champions “Masquerade.”

“For more than a century the NAMM Show has been the gathering place for music product manufacturers and retailers to conduct business, make industry connections, and learn about the latest business trends,” said NAMM President and CEO Joe Lamond. “NAMM is excited to share the wealth of knowledge, insight and connections that come from this event with the best and brightest students who may one day become the future leaders of our industry.”

College and post-graduate students studying music business or music education are encouraged to attend as a guest of the NAMM Foundation, and registration fees are waived for qualified university- and college-level students through Jan. 5, 2012. Attendees will be responsible for their travel expenses to the NAMM Show and other related expenses.
