Jeffrey Pevar
Oral History Information
Jeffrey Pevar is an American producer, bandleader, composer, and acclaimed touring and session guitarist whose lifelong dedication to music began at an early age. After seeing The Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show, Jeff knew music would define his future. Inspired and determined, he began playing guitar at age ten with encouragement from his older brother. Largely self-taught, he immersed himself in records — even learning intricate Steely Dan solos note for note — and by age fifteen was performing in local bands, with his mother driving him to bar gigs to pursue his growing passion. Jeff’s professional career took shape when Rickie Lee Jones gave him an early breakthrough opportunity, including a memorable performance at Red Rocks in 1983. From there, he built a distinguished career performing and recording with an extraordinary range of artists, including Crosby, Stills & Nash, David Crosby, James Taylor, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Carly Simon, Donald Fagen, Phil Collins, Dr. John, Kenny Loggins, and many others. He is a founding member of CPR (Crosby, Pevar & Raymond) and has also co-founded projects such as The Gilmour Project and Jazz Is Dead. As both a sideman and bandleader, Jeff has earned a reputation for musical versatility, tone, and collaborative spirit. Throughout his career, he has remained deeply positive and committed to helping others build sustainable lives in music — reflecting the same determination that guided him from those early days practicing guitar and chasing his dream.
