Susan Berk grew up in a musical family where she learned to play both guitar and piano, developed a love for classical and folk music, and even enjoyed twirling the baton while performing in her school's marching band. Her passion for history and research led her to a career as a librarian and archivist, including positions with the American Jewish Historical Society and the JFK Library in Boston, where she helped preserve important historical collections. Inspired by her love of Boston's rich heritage, Susan founded Uncommon Boston, a tour company that introduced visitors to the city's history through engaging walking tours, including specialized music tours featuring Berklee College of Music. She later authored Uncommon Boston, a guidebook that has sold more than 22,000 copies and remains a valued resource for exploring the city. Susan married Lee Berk after the two shared a first date at a concert at Berklee College of Music. They were married just five months later and spent 48 years together. During Lee's tenure as president, she witnessed Berklee's remarkable growth into an internationally recognized institution, supporting many of the initiatives that reflected his visionary leadership. Following his passing, Susan authored Lee Berk: Leading the Berklee Way, documenting his extraordinary contributions to music education and the college's enduring legacy. Susan has remained a fervent advocate for music education through her continued support of Berklee College of Music, including scholarships established in Lee's memory. Her lifelong commitment to preserving history, celebrating music, and supporting future generations reflects the same spirit of service and dedication that has defined her remarkable career.
