Al Schmitt’s career as a recording engineer covers more than 50 years of innovations in pro audio development and nearly every musical style. Al was the recording engineer for most of the great performers of the 1960s to present, several of whom became personal friends with Al. One such client that became a dear friend was soul singer Sam Cooke, who Al worked with on many of his later recordings. Al has been active with the TEC Awards for which he has been honored for his excellence in audio engineering. He was inducted into the TEC Hall of Fame in 1997. He also received the Grammy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 and over 150 gold or platinum albums, including for the song “Moon River” which was his first in 1961.
