Ana Dobrian
Oral History Information
Ana Dobrian has always thrived in the vibrant, electric energy of live music. Growing up in New Jersey, she was deeply embedded in the punk and hard rock scenes, spending countless nights in gritty clubs where she quickly forged lasting relationships with musicians, sound engineers and club owners. What began as a desire to support her friends — hauling gear, assisting with setup and lending a hand at the soundboard — soon evolved into a genuine calling. Ana’s intuitive grasp of audio technology and her tireless work ethic earned her opportunities as a live sound engineer in venues across New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, where she honed her technical skills and developed a keen ear. Her expertise deepened when she joined American Musical Supply as a pro audio technician in the returns department — a role she enthusiastically describes as one of the most immersive ways to understand gear from the inside out. There, she connected with the team at The Music People, forming lasting friendships that eventually led to her joining the company in 2021. Ana’s passion for learning remains insatiable; she constantly seeks knowledge from colleagues, vendors and customers, and she generously shares her experience through mentorship. As an active member of NAMM’s Young Professionals (NAMMYP) program, she encourages emerging professionals to pursue mentorship, stay curious and never stop exploring the possibilities within the music products industry. Ana is a fierce advocate for continuous growth, both personally and professionally, and a shining example of where passion and perseverance can lead.
