Bobby Wellins was surprised to learn that Charlie Watts, the drummer for the Rolling Stones, listed Bobby as an influence on his playing.  After all, the jazzman played tenor saxophone.  However, it was Bobby’s delivery that gained the ear of the young Mr. Watts, who later got to work with his hero for several jazz festivals around the world.  Bobby began recording in the 1960s and has worked with the likes of Kenny Wheeler, Lionel Grigson and as a member of the Jim Richardson Quartet in the 1970s.  The 2012 documentary, Dreams Are Free, is based on Bobby’s long and sometimes difficult career in music.  His 2014 album, Culloden Moor Suite, recorded with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, won the praise of critics and fans alike.
