Alice Cooper

Ernie Cefalu started his career in advertising and quickly found a niche as an artist, creative director, and graphic designer. He is the force behind much of the iconic album art, working on projects for Alice Cooper, The Rolling Stones, The Bee Gees, and Aerosmith. In his Oral History interview, Ernie reflects on his memories of designing the legendary Rolling Stones “Lips” logo and his work on the Jesus Christ Superstar album art. Ernie continues to pursue his passion in the art world to this day.

Jack Douglas was among the early and most successful recording engineers at the Record Plant. He worked with founders Chris Stone and Gary Kellgren to create a modern and innovative studio that focused on making the artists feel relaxed in order to record the best performances possible. Over his long career, Jack engineered recordings by The Who, Aerosmith, New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult, and John Lennon. Mark Stein played an important role in psychedelic rock in the 1960s as keyboardist for Vanilla Fudge. His dad was a singer and was always supportive of Mark’s career in music, which began when he played accordion as a child. His dad, who later became Mark’s manager, booked him on a television program when he was just 11 years old. Michael Strickland was paid $25.00 for lighting his first rock concert in 1968 at the age of twelve. He knew The Grass Roots were in town to perform so he borrowed the overhead projectors and lights from his school and set them up for their show. The band was impressed, and Michael was hooked! He later formed the company Bandit Lites and went on to a very innovative and successful career.
