Meyer Sound

Buford Jones has thoroughly enjoyed his career as a live sound mixer and FOH engineer for over 50 years. He toured in excess of 47 years with artists such as Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top and Linda Ronstadt, just to name five. Buford pioneered mixing in stereo (in the early 1970s) and later did the same for mixing in surround sound (such as for Pink Floyd’s “Delicate Sound of Thunder”). Buford began his career touring for Showco, where he stayed for ten years before becoming an independent contractor where he was able to work directly with the artists.

Peter Kowalczyk found an old Silver Tone Guitar in his attic as a kid that belonged to his father, who encouraged Peter to play.  He surrounded himself with music and found a position years later in high school in the school play as a music tech.  It was there that Peter first put his hands on a mixing console.  And the rest wasn’t quite history, but close.  Peter found his passion in audio engineering.  Hired by Meyer Sound, Peter found great satisfaction in working with loud speaker technology as a driver tester as well as acoustic research and testing within the R&D of loud

John Meyer founded Meyer Sound Laboratory back in 1979 and soon became an important pioneer and innovator in sound reinforcement.  He worked to establish a balance in the sound created by the microphones, signal processors, amps and loudspeakers to produce the desired sound for both live and recording settings.  Over the years John has became the father of such advances in audio as processor-controlled loudspeaker systems as well as self-powered loudspeakers.  He has created sound systems for such performers as Frank Zappa, The Grateful Dead and Creedence Clearwater Revival, among

Helen Meyer, Co-Founder of Meyer Sound in Berkeley California, remembers attending a rock concert while still dating John Meyer (whom she later married). John turned to Helen and told her he thought he could make a better system. It wasn’t long before the company was formed and like John, Helen jumped in with both feet. She learned accounting and designed the parts department as well as handled sales and ran the Human Resource department. Helen oversaw the hiring of all new employees. While John was creating award winning innovative products for live sound and the movies, Helen ra
