The Monkees

Michael Nesmith is best known as the woolen hat-wearing member of iconic television pop band the Monkees, which enjoyed massive global success during the 1960s. Outside of the Monkees, Nesmith has gained kudos as a solo artist and songwriter, particularly with his group First National Band, which recorded three albums and are considered to be one of the pioneers of country rock. In other artistic pursuits, Nesmith created a video-clip for his song ”Rio" which helped spur the creation of a television program called PopClips. Peter Tork was an original member of the Monkees and enjoyed great success on TV and the top of the pop charts during the mid and late 1960s. Years later, Peter admitted that the cast members of the TV show were not playing their instruments on the first recording, however Peter and Micky Dolenz on drums did play their instruments on the remaining recordings that the Monkees produced. As a result, Peter’s guitar playing became a critical element of the band’s later success and led to several other bands over the these including his own band that played often at the NAMM Show over
