Roger Cook was born in Bristol, England, and was involved with making music at an early age. He sang in a local Doo Wop group while a teenager, which is when he met his longtime friend and songwriting collaborator, Roger Greenaway. The two Rogers wrote such hits as “You’ve Got Your Trouble” recorded by the Fortunes, “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress” a big hit for the Hollies, and a song originally written for a Coca-Cola jingle yet later was recorded by several artists entitled “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony).” Mr. Cook moved to Nashville in 1975 where h

Nick Firth served as the chairman of BMG Music Publishing for several years during his long and noted career in the music industry. His grandfather and great-uncle owned Chappell Music in the United States as well as in England beginning in the 1910s. Nick grew up in the business and worked for Chappell himself for several years before the company was sold in the 1980s. Nick was also active in the publishing of songs written by BMG Music recording artists.  

Bill Lloyd is one half of the country duo Foster & Lloyd. Along with his partner Radney Foster, Bill wrote and recorded several hit songs including “Crazy Over You” and “Since I Found You.” The latter became a big hit for the Sweethearts of the Rodeo in 1986. Bill’s love of music can be traced back to his childhood when his father was a drummer and his mother played the piano. By the time Bill was a teenager he was already playing in bars three nights a week. His songwriting talents led to a gig as a staff writer for a number of publishers including Warner Chappell and EMI.

Jay R. Morgenstern was a veteran of the record and music publishing industries and served as the Executive Vice President/General Manager of Warner Chappell Music Inc. His amazing career was only matched by his reputation as a passionate advocate for those he represents. During our interview he spoke of his early days and the many changes he has witnessed in the music publishing business over the years. Irwin Robinson played vital roles at many of the largest and most important American music publishers for much of the second half of the 20th Century. Irwin worked for Columbia Pictures (as legal counsel for its publishing company, Alden Music), Chappel Music (as president), EMI (as president) and Famous Music (as president) establishing himself as one of the pioneers and leaders in the pop print industry. Along with his fascinating career is a host of memories from witnessing the creative process of music making.
