Oral History Information
Cesar Rosas was born in Hermosillo, Mexico, in the state of Sonora, and was greatly influenced by the music he heard as a child growing up. He was exposed to traditional Mexican music and instruments, and continued to play the music of his heritage even after moving to East Los Angeles as a teenager. While playing with some friends, Cesar formed two bands - one playing traditional Mexican music and one playing rock music. During his NAMM Oral History interview, he said slowly the two blended together and formed what is now known as the band Los Lobos! The band recorded several albums before being asked to perform in the movie La Bamba which centers about the life of Ritchie Valens. The band toured around the world, becoming a big influence within Tex-Mex and Chicano Rock styles.
