Founder

Weiss Engineering

Daniel Weiss grew up in Switzerland with a passion for music and electronics. He played the electric violin (one that he built himself) as well as bass, before developing an interest in building and playing synthesizers – something that he learned from a magazine. He started to build his own amps when he couldn’t afford to buy them, and thus started a long career of designing and building audio products. Daniel joined Studer as electronics engineer in 1979 where he worked in the digital audio lab for five years. When he realized there was a market for custom digital audio equipment, he founded Weiss Engineering in 1985. One of the company’s greatest achievements was creating the IBIS digital mixing console, which was one of the largest setups of a 102 Series system and was used at Sony Music in New York for mixing classical music recordings. In 2021, Daniel received the Technical Grammy Award for contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field.
