Oral History Information
Frank McIlquham is the founder and executive director of Rock for Vets, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting military veterans through the healing power of music. Inspired by a belief in music’s ability to foster connection and renewal, Frank established the program to provide veterans with opportunities to learn instruments, develop vocal skills, and actively participate in a collaborative musical environment. The initiative is designed to promote mental health, overall well-being, and stronger interpersonal relationships, helping participants reconnect with family, friends, and their broader communities. Through shared musical experiences, veterans build self-confidence, strengthen communication skills, and rediscover a sense of purpose. The program also encourages positive life choices by offering a constructive creative outlet while reducing the likelihood of destructive habits. Under Frank’s leadership, Rock for Vets has created a welcoming space where veterans support one another, form meaningful bonds, and experience the unifying and restorative benefits that music can provide.
