Jon D’Auria
Oral History Information
Jon D’Auria is the founder and editor-in-chief of Bass Magazine and a respected voice in music journalism whose career reflects both creative energy and an unwavering commitment to the musician community. As a teenager, Jon stepped in when a friend’s band needed a bass player, dedicating himself to the instrument with practice sessions that often stretched six hours at a time until he was performing regularly in bands. His passion for storytelling led him to study writing and journalism, eventually contributing articles to Bass Player Magazine, where he also served as a photographer and later as web editor. Known for his enthusiastic “say yes and figure it out” approach, Jon built a reputation for versatility and reliability. Between 2011 and 2018, he conducted more than 450 interviews, documenting the insights of leading artists. In December 2018, he and his co-founders launched the digital-only Bass Magazine at the NAMM Show, further expanding his role as an industry storyteller. A strong advocate for the NAMM Show and the Oral History program, Jon remains an active performer while continuing to amplify the voices of fellow musicians.
