Robert Downey Jr.’s connection to music has been a lifelong creative outlet and an important part of his artistic expression. He began playing piano as a child, and his love of music has often overlapped with his acting career. He has sung on soundtracks for projects such as Ally McBeal and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and even performed a memorable live duet with music legend Sting. In 2004, Robert Downey Jr. released his own studio album, The Futurist. The album featured eight original ballads, with Downey Jr. composing, playing piano, and singing. He has also been a strong supporter of music education. As part of NAMM’s national “Wanna Play?” campaign, he attended the NAMM Show in 2008 to help highlight the many benefits of learning to play an instrument. Through both his own music and his commitment to music education, Robert Downey Jr. continues to inspire people of all ages to experience the lifelong joy of making music.
