Rupert Greenall
Oral History Information
Rupert Greenall has been the masterful synthesist for the new wave band The Fixx since its formation in 1979. His boundless creativity and relentless passion for the latest electronic instruments have cemented his reputation as one of popular music’s most distinctive and innovative keyboardists. Throughout his remarkable career, Rupert has collaborated with a variety of acclaimed bands and artists, yet it wasn’t until his performance at NAMM’s Museum of Making Music in 2025 that he stepped onto the stage as a soloist. The experience proved deeply rewarding, helping him emerge from his comfort zone. In his NAMM Oral History interview that same day, he shared his newfound desire to continue performing solo. He also revealed a long-held dream—to play with R.E.M., a band he adores and knows by heart. When asked which synthesizer he would choose for such a performance, Rupert didn’t hesitate: “The Prophet-5!”
