Sophie Rojas
Oral History Information
Sophie Rojas grew up in a family that ran a funeral business, where music was part of everyday life. She learned piano, then sang and played drums in her school band and choir, and she performed at church and at the family funeral home. On a whim, Sophie called Meyer Music and asked co-founder Betty Meyer about a job. Betty told her to call her son, Mike, who hired Sophie as his assistant manager. Their 15 years working together gave her an amazing opportunity to learn the business. Sophie then spent more than nine years with Conn-Selmer covering a 12-state territory. At the time, she was one of very few women road reps in the industry. She treasured the camaraderie of the many retailers she came to call friends and took pride in materially helping their businesses. In 2022, Eastman Music Company invited her to join as a Midwest representative, and her role as Regional Sales Manager proved another ideal fit. In 2026, Sophie attended the Women of NAMM Leadership Summit, an experience she thoroughly enjoyed for the opportunity to learn, exchange ideas and build meaningful relationships with other women in the industry. The Summit broadened her perspective on leadership, strengthened her professional skills and reinforced the importance of supporting and learning from one another.
