Tom Anderson
Oral History Information
Tom Anderson, founder of Tom Anderson Guitarworks, fell in love with the guitar at age eight, inspired by the electrifying sounds of 1950s rock and surf legends like Dick Dale. A natural-born tinkerer, Tom was drawn to taking things apart and perfecting them — a passion that led him to Schecter Guitar Research in 1977. After seven transformative years, he boldly launched his own company in 1984 from his home workshop, eventually evolving into the renowned Tom Anderson Guitarworks. With the steadfast support of his wife Kathryn and the organizational brilliance of his business partner Laurie Berg, Tom built a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, cutting-edge innovation, and unwavering ethics — always putting people first. Early adoption of CNC technology and a focus on creating stunning, beautifully crafted guitars helped the company earn top accolades, including multiple wins in Guitar Player magazine’s celebrated Tele shootout. Today, Tom remains hands-on, dedicated to designing instruments that inspire players from the very first glance to the final chord.
