Concert for A Cause: Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Museum of Making Music and Friends of San Pasqual Academy Raise $236,000 for Music Education Programs for Foster Teens

On Wednesday, September 25, NAMM’s Museum of Making Music (MoMM) and Friends of San Pasqual Academy raised a combined $236,000 at a “Concert for a Cause,” headlined by the legendary band Creedence Clearwater Revisited. Nearly 400 generous music fans and local community and arts leaders gathered at the show to support efforts to give foster youth a brighter future through music. The concert, held at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California, marked one of the most successful benefits in MoMM’s history. Previous annual MoMM fundraisers have featured a slew of top musicians including Graham Nash, Mavis Staples, Herb Alpert with Lani Hall, among others.

“Creedence Clearwater Revisited is one of the few bands playing that has a third and fourth-generation crowd of fans enjoying their timeless hits,” says Carolyn Grant, MoMM’s Executive Director. “In this way, they also perfectly echo our own mission to reach and impact youths, for generations to come, including those who need music as a force that both unites and heals. I am overwhelmed and grateful for the support of so many from the community to continue this important work to give local foster youth a brighter future.”

Patrons of the evening enjoyed a two-hour performance of inspiring musicianship from Creedence Clearwater Revisited founding members and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Stu Cook and Doug “Cosmo” Clifford, backed by their full band. The setlist included hits such as “Born on the Bayou,” “Green River” and “Susie Q,” among others.

“It was a pleasure to participate in this event since I believe music is one of the most unique art forms that anyone can make,” says Stu Cook.

The vital funds raised will benefit the museum’s intensive one-on-one music program at San Pasqual Academy - a musical component of the school’s robust programming that assists foster teens in their endeavor to become confident, productive, contributing, educated, successful adults.

San Pasqual Academy’s music programming provides individual lessons, group steel pan drumming workshops, and opportunities to explore the larger world of music making and careers in the industry. Money raised at this event will undergird these efforts as well as the Museum’s additional annual investment of over $100,000 in support of educational tours for Title 1 schools, and hands-on music programs for thousands of adults, seniors, students, and children from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
