NAMM Brings Music to Anaheim Elementary School
Music industry leaders spend day volunteering at Anaheim’s James Guinn Elementary School to kick the 2016 NAMM Show off on a philanthropic note
NAMM members bring music to Anaheim’s James Guinn Elementary School with a day of service on Tuesday, January 19 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The effort celebrates the Anaheim City School District’s (ACSD) re-introduction of music education programs.
"Through the support of the annual NAMM Show in Anaheim, The NAMM Foundation works year-long to bring music to children around the world," said Joe Lamond, president and CEO of NAMM. "And while our members come from around the globe, making a difference right here in Anaheim has special meaning to us. We’re proud to support the passionate music teachers, parents, students and administrators in the Anaheim City School District who are working so hard to ensure every child has an opportunity for a well-rounded education that includes music!”
Support from the NAMM Foundation helps to advance the district’s multi-year effort to expand music education offerings as part of a well-rounded curriculum for all of the district’s 19,000 students. ACSD re-initiated its music education program with an orchestra program in 2013. The district added three full-time music teachers in 2014 – the first music teachers in the district in 20 years – and another four this school year.
Music Industry leaders in town for the NAMM Show (January 21-24) will bring guitars, drums and ukuleles for a morning of music at Anaheim’s James Guinn Elementary School. NAMM members Kala Brand Music Co., Remo, Daisy Rock Girl Guitars, and GAMA, share instruments and provide first-class instructors for music lessons. The NAMM Foundation’s day of service kicks off the annual gathering of nearly 100,000 members of the music product industry in Anaheim. During the day of service, the NAMM Foundation and NAMM members will make a donation to bolster the district’s budding music programs.
