NAMM Encourages Schools, After-School Programs, Musical Groups and Individuals to Register for ‘Music Monday’
Musical Arrangement and Lyrics for Designated Music Monday Song 'I Wanna Play' By Aaron Tippin Now Available Online
The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) today announced that schools, after-school programs, musical groups or individuals who would like to encourage others across North America to play an instrument or sing can now register for NAMM’s Music Monday event, the kickoff to the association’s fifth annual National Wanna Play Music Week May 2-8, and play a song in order to motivate people to experience the fun and proven benefits of playing an instrument.
On May 2, the 109-year-old association will again partner with the Canadian-based Coalition of Music Education in this North America-wide event that celebrates the many proven social, wellness and academic benefits of making music for people of all ages. The event is intended to galvanize people through the power of playing a song together at the same time, on the same day.
NAMM’s designated Music Monday song is called “I Wanna Play!” by platinum recording artist Aaron Tippin and producer James Stroud. Music Monday participants can perform this song at the designated simultaneous time on May 2, symbolically uniting them through one piece of music, or they can perform a song of their choice any time that day. The designated simultaneous performance time on May 2 is: 10 a.m. Pacific Time, 11 a.m. Mountain time, 12 p.m. Central time, 1 p.m. Eastern time, and 2 p.m. Atlantic time.
To hear the designated song, download arrangements and lyrics, and for details on how to register for and organize your Music Monday event, visit: http://www.wannaplaymusic.com/programs/music-monday-usa. NAMM encourages all participants to share their unique Music Monday experiences online for their networks to see, and to encourage all people who do not play an instrument to take NAMM’s “Pledge to Play” at www.facebook.com/wannaplaybynamm.
