Winning SchoolJam USA Band ‘Peligro 614’ Performs at SchoolJam Germany Finals During Musikmesse
The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) today announced that the winning teen band of this year’s SchoolJam USA competition called Peligro 614 recently had the opportunity to travel to Germany to perform at the SchoolJam Germany finals competition onsite at Musikmesse 2011.
The trip to Germany and performance opportunity is offered each year to the winning SchoolJam USA band as part of a youth cultural exchange agreement between NAMM and MusikMedia Germany. This year, Peligro 614 performed a 25-minute set for a crowd of 1,000 people at the Agora Stage onsite at MusikMesse.
SchoolJam USA is an established music initiative, originally developed by MM MusikMedia Germany to promote popular and rock music in schools throughout Germany. The program has provided thousands of music-loving young adults with the opportunity to perform and network with their peers, increasing their love for playing music and encouraging them to become active musicians.
In the United States, NAMM has collaborated on the national program with MENC, Music For All and the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus during the past two years, following a successful pilot program in Texas. SchoolJam USA works to unite local schools, teens, educators and communities in the quest to get young people making music and to promote the importance of school music programs. The 2011-2012 season will begin in August, 2011.
