With support from NAMM, the International Music Products Association and its nonprofit affiliate, IFMR, the International Foundation for Music Research, The Institute for Music and Neurologic Function will present a full-day conference called Dialogues Across Disciplines: Cognitive Neuroscience and Music Processing in Human Function on December 2, 2002, at the Hudson Theatre and the Millennium Broadway Hotel.

Some of the world’s most popular performers will participate in The 2003 NAMM Concert Honoring Sir Elton John: A Benefit for Music Education, presented by Yamaha. The benefit will be held on January 17 at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California.

In an effort to make the 2003 NAMM Show experience more convenient and enjoyable for participants, NAMM today announced the availability of a new shuttle bus system with special discounted rates for NAMM Members.

On behalf of her son, recording artist Justin Timberlake, and parents across America, Lynn Harless of Tennessee visited Capitol Hill today to deliver a petition in support of music education.

NAMM, the International Music Products Association, recently received a $100,000 Educational Improvement grant from the U.S. Department of Education to support its “MusicVentures in School” program, a project that aims to provide music-making opportunities in north San Diego County public school districts where access to arts and music education is limited.

NAMM’s Oral History program added the 100th interview to its archives at the recent 2002 NAMM Summer Session, a milestone that took place on July 19 with the interview of Seymour Duncan, a master of guitar and bass pickup design. “It is an honor for me to be included in such an important project,” Duncan said.

NAMM University, the association’s center of higher learning for MI professionals, recently announced that more than 50,000 people have attended its live business courses and seminars. Launched in August of 1995, NAMM U provides training and professional development to music product retailers and manufacturers around the world. The curriculum is tailored to the industry, allowing students to proactively update their skill sets and remain competitive in today’s aggressive marketplace.

What do you get when you combine cute kids, furry Sesame Street Muppets and a variety of musical instruments? Lots of awards! That has certainly been the case with the NAMM-sponsored Music Works Wonders video. The 22-minute educational tape, currently used by many NAMM retail Members to promote the benefits of music making to preschoolers and their parents, took honors at more than a dozen recent video award presentations, including the New York Festivals Competition, the Telly Awards and the International Film and Video Awards.

Piano 300: Celebrating Three Centuries of People and Pianos, a book focusing on the NAMM-sponsored Piano 300 exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution, recently won two awards at the Washington Book Publishers Annual Book Design Competition. The publication received second place in the four-color interior design category, and won third place for its sleek cover design.

There are only days remaining for people to add their names to Justin Timberlake’s Congressional petition in support of music education. Thousands of people across the country have already gone online to join the cause at the urging of the popular recording artist, and the petition will close on Labor Day. Timberlake, whose Justin Timberlake Foundation has partnered with the American Music Conference (AMC) to promote quality music education for every student, first announced the petition during a phone appearance on MTV’s Total Request Live on June 12.
