Oral History Information
Betty Bennett is the President, CEO, and one of the three founders of Apogee Electronics, located in Santa Monica, California. She was president of Soundcraft USA in 1985 when she teamed up with audio engineer Bruce Jackson and sound designer Christof Heidelberger. Their first goal was to find a solution to a sound quality problem studios were facing in the early days of digital recordings. Their first product was a filter (the 944) designed to upgrade digital recording machines that became a big success for Apogee. As the company grew, it was important to Betty for its core values to be reflected in everyday operations. She is proud that Apogee is a women-owned company in the audio world and that they support many nonprofit charities including those dedicated to environmental needs. She is also very proud of the team she says she “gets to work with” as they continue to focus on audio innovations.
